A Christmas Message From TOR
Christmas is an important day for many reasons. Aside from the fun and cheer of the holiday, which is very important, Christmas is the shining light that pierces through a veil of long, dark and cold days where hope can seem like a fleeting shadow in an empty, quiet room. It is because of how the state of the world can feel at times, that we wanted to share some sentiments about the holiday that can hopefully provide an important perspective.
Christmas is a time of renewal and represents the birth of hope. Christ came to us during arguably the most violent time in our history, to restore faith in our spirits and renew our vigilance, seemingly against all odds. In a time where kings led infanticides, Mary and Joseph struggled to find a place to rest after an arduous journey to give birth to Jesus, finding their only solace in a manger among animals. Upon his birth, a star erupted in the sky, calling forth shepherds and kings.
The magi, who traveled great distances, following the one, singular guiding light in the sky, carried gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These were gifts of sustenance and healing during a time when people had nothing. The light of Christ, that broke through the night, guided them to their destination just as it should again for each of us during this time of year, to prepare us for what is to come.
Our times often seem bleak, dark and hopeless, but Christmas is a time for the spirit to renew its vigilance through celebration; to refill our cups and sing loudly that ‘Christ Our King was born today.’ 2026 will bring many challenges for us. Many decisions and diverging paths will be presented in the new year, along with many new revelations. Thanks to our God, who became flesh and was born on this day, we will always have a guiding light to lead us down the rightful path to our destination. So let the fires of friends and family warm you and fill your spiritual cup so that we may celebrate with cheer the birth of hope the way it is intended.
