Clark County Board of Election moves forward with both party nominations for same seat

CLARK COUNTY - After two parties claiming legitimacy have proceeded with their own nominations for who will sit in the Clark County Commissioner seat, vacated by Melanie Flax Wilt, it has been confirmed the county board of elections will proceed with both nominations.

The Clark County board of elections has confirmed they will proceed with both party nominations to temporarily sit in the commissioner chair recently vacated. According to recent statements from the board, it is not within the purview of the board of elections to choose a side, but simply to process the forms and send them to the governor’s office.

The move was opposed by Executive committee chair Laura Rosenberger, who submitted a motion to suppress the certificate of appointment submitted by ‘The Republican Party of Clark County’ to nominate Daren Cotter. Conversely, the 'The Clark County Republican Party Central and Executive Committee' has nominated Mark Sanders.

According to the submitted motion, Rosenberger argued that the ‘Republican Party of Clark County’ did not submit proper notice to members and the public, thus making the appointment of Cotter violated the statutory requirements found in Ohio Revised Code §121.22 (5)(F)

Both forms will now move forward to the Governor's office.
